Jerry E. Bishop was born March 29, 1931 in Dalhart, Texas. Bishop has been the science reporter for the Wall Street Journal since 1955. Bishop's science, medical, and technology articles have won awards from the American Medical Association, the Association for the Advancement of Science, and the show more American Chemical Society. With Michael Waldholz, Bishop wrote Genome: The Story of the Most Astonishing Scientific Adventure of Our Time-The Attempt to Map All the Genes in the Human Body. The critically acclaimed fictional work traces the discovery of the genome, or map of all human genes in the DNA. The book made complex science accessible to the layperson and conveyed the real drama of scientific discovery. In 1990, Bishop was awarded the American Institute of Physics Science Writing Award.
